LPG vs Gas vs Electric Boilers

Should I choose a gas or an LPG boiler?

Firstly, you need to know the difference between the two. Gas boilers require gas to be delivered to homes via the mains gas supply. Your boiler then uses this gas to heat your water and heat your home.

LPG on the other hand is completely different.

LPG is brought to your home and stored in a storage tank that is usually located near the side of your house or in your garden. You'll need to order extra fuel and have it delivered to add to your storage tank so you do not need to worry about it running out. The boiler is then connected to your boiler to heat your home as you would with a gas boiler.

• LPG boilers are the cheapest when compared to alternative sources of heating.
• Similar to gas, LPG boilers are just as efficient, with modern boilers reaching up to 90% efficiency.  
• They are environmentally friendly.
• Many of the biggest manufacturers now produce LPG boilers, increasing its range.

Cons

• LPG is more expensive per unit than gas.
• It can be stressful to wait for deliveries.
• You'll need to create a storage space for a tank and be responsible for keeping it in working order.

What is an electric boiler?

Many new boilers need an electrical source to function. However, electric boilers convert the power into heat and do not burn any fossil fuels during the process. Electric boilers are ideal for properties not linked to the main gas supply and smaller properties requiring very little heating and hot water.

Advantages of Electric Boilers

Because less labour is involved and an electric boiler doesn't need to be connected to a gas source, they are typically less expensive to install than gas boilers.

They are also built using less moving components, reducing any chances of any problems from occurring.

Disadvantages of Electric Boilers

The main disadvantage of an electric boiler is that it cannot meet the demands of heating and hot water if you have a larger property. In addition to this, if you experience a power cut, there are chances that your boiler will also stop working.
